Project description

The project aims to gain a better understanding of how one’s own political views and political perceptions of a travel destination influence travel behavior. It focuses on the question of how political attitudes shape tourist behavior and how interactions with locals are perceived.

Project goals

The goal of the project is to analyze the vacation travel attitudes and behaviors of supporters of various political parties in Germany in order to identify potential correlations between political attitudes and travel preferences. Methodologically, seven online focus groups were conducted: one group for each political party—CDU/CSU, SPD, Alliance 90/The Greens, FDP, The Left, BSW, and AfD. In addition, a representative face-to-face survey was conducted as part of the Travel Analysis in January 2025 (n = 7,013).
