The Institute of Management and Tourism (IMT) at FH Westküste University of Applied Sciences, under the leadership of DIW Econ GmbH and in collaboration with dwif-Consulting GmbH and dwif e.V., played a key role in the study, which was completed in April 2017 and published in July 2017. After 2012, the “economic factor tourism” for Germany was determined for the second time on the basis of a Tourism Satellite Account (TSA). This reporting system, which is based on internationally established definitions and standards (including those of the World Tourism Organization UNWTO), records the consumer spending of private and business overnight and day visitors in line with the national accounts and calculates the effects of this spending on gross value added and employment. In 2017, the study paid particular attention to the effects of the digitalization of the tourism industry.
