Project description

The impact of rapid advancements in the field of artificial intelligence is also the subject of much discussion in the tourism industry. For this industry, which is plagued by a shortage of skilled workers, there are opportunities arising from potential efficiency gains in service, marketing, and other areas; at the same time, questions regarding the acceptance and use of chatbots, robots, or machine-generated travel recommendations—among other things—remain unresolved due to demand and will evolve over time. This project measured attitudes toward AI, as well as the acceptance and current use of AI during the pre-trip phase. To this end, an online survey was conducted in September 2024. The sample (n = 1,004) was representative of the German-speaking resident population (ages 16–74), and respondents selected for the survey were individuals who regularly take vacation trips.

Project goals

Assessing the Current State of Acceptance and Use of Artificial Intelligence for Vacation Planning in Germany
