Project duration

The quantitative survey (n = 976) was carried out in July 2024 by mindline energy GmbH on behalf of DI Tourismusforschung. Initial results were published in August. The full analysis will be published in the form of a working paper during the remainder of 2024.

Project description

Attending major events is a regular part of the annual program for many people. However, in a year like 2024 with a large number of major events, rising ticket and vacation prices and a discrepancy between supply and demand, there may be increased pressure to choose between the various offers. In addition, statistics show that prices for accommodation and other services are rising significantly at the venues of major events. These developments are frequently discussed in the media and in the context of private vacation travel. Against this background, the project examines the influence of major European events on vacation travel planning. The investigation is carried out as part of a quantitative survey.

Project goals

  • Analysis of the influence of major European events on vacation travel planning in 2024
  • Analysis of visitor behavior at major events
  • Analysis of the reasons for attending and avoiding major events
  • Analysis of vacation duration in connection with attending major events
  • Analysis of attendance at major events in relation to the usual individual travel motives
