Project duration

May, June / July and September 2020

Project description

As part of the RA online travel analysis, special questions on the influence of the COVID-19 situation on travel options and travel plans as well as the attitude of Germans towards vacations were asked for the first time at the beginning of May 2020 – during the phase of the first easing of restrictions after the lockdown. At the same time, surveys with the same content were conducted in Norway and Finland via the partner universities of the ICNT network. The international comparison will be examined in more detail in a joint publication. In Germany, selected special questions were also repeated shortly before the summer vacations (end of June / beginning of July) and after the summer vacations in September. In the September wave, feelings during vacation trips taken during the pandemic were also examined retrospectively. The results of the three waves were evaluated in a time comparison and published in the new edition of the Tourism Atlas and used in teaching, among other things. The topic of the COVID-19 pandemic was also addressed in other studies in 2020, such as RA Business, the City Monitor and Destination Brand international, each with questions relevant to the overall study. This generates up-to-date, relevant information for teaching, science and practice from various perspectives.
