Despite local challenges, tourism is a key economic factor of great importance in the communities of Grömitz and Büsum; as a result, the loss of this industry would have a significant impact on the economic and social structure of these communities. To raise awareness of the profound economic and social impacts of the loss of tourism in the communities of Grömitz and Büsum, these impacts are being examined and visualized. To this end, this project combines traditional methods (go-along interviews) of qualitative social research with new approaches in the form of text-to-video and video-generative AI models, thereby also yielding insights into this research approach.
The goal of the project is to use text-to-video or video-generative AI models to create a video showing what Grömitz and Büsum would look like without tourism. Tourism plays a major role in both communities, and the loss of this industry would have significant consequences. The video is intended to visually illustrate these impacts, stimulate discussion about the need for a balanced and sustainable tourism strategy, and foster a deeper understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the local population. It also aims to provide insights into the methodological approach.
