So far, however, very little information is available on how the vacation trips ultimately undertaken during the corona pandemic are experienced on site, i.e. which dimensions of experience and feelings predominate, how satisfied the guests are with the trip and what influence, for example, the perceived safety on site, the acceptance of corona measures or the vaccination status have on the perception. The project of the German Institute for Tourism Research is dedicated to these questions (using the example of vacation guests in the North Sea resort of Büsum). After the second lockdown (December 2020 – May 2021), which lasted several months, tourism was reopened for the whole of Schleswig-Holstein on 17 May 2021 after a short trial phase with model regions, subject to strict conditions for businesses and guests (mandatory testing, mandatory masks, hygiene concepts, etc.). This was also the case in Büsum, which therefore offered an ideal setting to analyze the vacation experience and the various crisis-related influencing factors under real conditions. Against this background, visitors to the North Sea resort were surveyed online on site (convenience sample) during their stay from the opening in mid-May 2021 until the end of the summer vacations. The questionnaire included an evaluation of the vacation experience as well as the feeling during the trip and numerous social and personal factors influencing the experience (including feeling safe, acceptance of the corona measures, vaccination status, socio-demographics). In addition, satisfaction with the stay and willingness to recommend the trip to others were assessed. After the end of the field period, a quantitative data analysis and evaluation of the correlations took place in fall 2021.
