Publication “Tourism in the context of current social developments” published
Erich Schmidt Verlag (ESV) has published the anthology “Tourismus im Kontext aktueller gesellschaftlicher Entwicklungen – Interdisziplinäre Einblicke und Perspektiven” (Tourism in the Context of Current Social Developments – Interdisciplinary Insights and Perspectives ), the third volume in the publication series of the German Institute for Tourism Research. Tourism is a highly complex system of the most diverse manifestations, relationships and interactions, in which not only the special features of tourism products but also a wide range of environmental influences and effects play a role. This volume, produced as part of the “6th Deidesheim Talks on Tourism Studies”, takes up the diverse links and interactions of tourism and looks at current areas of tension and perspectives of tourism across disciplines, e.g.:
- Resilience and governance: e.g. challenges for urban destinations, participatory governance, sustainable mobility
- Visitors and destinations: Overtourism and crowding perception, destinations beyond idyllic vacation worlds
- Target groups and offers: Gender and stereotypical offers, barrier-free tourism
- Regional culture and specialties: Wine tourism, pub culture in Bavaria
- Communication and digital: experience offers for customer communication, destination experiences on destination websites and much more.
The Volume contains the contributions of the Scientific instructors of the 6th Deidesheim Talks on Tourism Science, which took place from November 8 to 10, 2023. The Volume was edited by Christian Eilzer and Prof. Dr. Bernd Eisenstein, both from the German Institute for Tourism Research, and Manfred Dörr, former mayor of the town of Deidesheim as well as President of the Cittaslow Germany Association and Vice President of Cittaslow International.
