Publication: Short reports in the project AIR
As part of the project “AI-based Recommender for Sustainable Tourism (AIR)”, DI Tourismusforschung of the FH Westküste University of Applied Sciences has been working on digital visitor management with a large number of nationwide partners from research and practice since the beginning of 2022. Several milestones have already been reached and important interim results achieved in the project to date. These findings are regularly published in the form of short reports for all interested parties in the publicly accessible and free AIR Zenodo community. The topics covered so far range from theoretical findings such as the representation of frequencies and occupancy rates (especially of parking spaces) or the perception of crowding to the results of guest surveys conducted in the use cases. In the two current publications of DI Tourismusforschung (in collaboration with Dirk Schmücker, NIT Kiel), the possible data sources for digital visitor management are presented on the one hand and the suitability of location measurements for digital visitor management is discussed on the other. What is AIR? As part of the project, digital possibilities are being developed to avoid the temporary overloading of travel and excursion destinations through targeted visitor information and to identify suitable alternatives. The aim is to achieve the equalization of visitor flows with the help of a recommender so that a contribution can be made to sustainable tourism development. The funding of the joint project by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) runs until the end of 2024.
