Project launch as part of the BMWK’s LIFT transformation program: Emission-free camping: The regeneratively powered campsite

On 01.07.2024, the project “Emission-free camping: The regeneratively supplied campsite”, funded as part of the BMWK’s “LIFT Transformation” funding program, was launched. The German Institute for Tourism Research (DI Tourismusforschung) and the Institute for the Transformation of the Energy System (ITE) are working on a joint project with the Federal Association of the Camping Industry in Germany (BVCD) on the regenerative orientation of campsite energy systems. The foreseeable significant increase in the electrification of camping vehicles will significantly increase the electrical power requirements of campsites and, in conjunction with the heat transition, will mean that in-house electricity production from renewable energy sources and electricity storage measures will play a decisive role in the economic maintenance of a campsite and in the supply of electricity to guests. The project aims to develop concrete measures in the areas of energy generation, storage and consumption for the regenerative, largely emission-free set-up of campsite energy systems and to test them conceptually and simulatively on the basis of case studies. As a result, campsites will be provided with guidelines to support them in the technically and economically sensible selection, design and dimensioning of their energy generation and storage systems, taking into account site-specific conditions. Detailed information about the project can be found here.
