Measuring the contribution of tourism to Germans’ quality of life enters the next round

Quality of life is a subjectively perceived and complex construct that is influenced by a variety of factors – this was also shown in the results of the regression analyses that were carried out as part of the pilot study on quality of life and tourism. It became clear that aspects related to tourism, such as the leisure and cultural activities on offer in one’s own place of residence, do play a role, but that a number of general aspects of life, such as the state of health or the level of income, also have a positive influence on the quality of life of Germans. Following the successful implementation of the pilot study, the second survey wave with an extended methodology is now in the starting blocks – in addition to conducting an online survey, telephone interviews will also be carried out in order to reach the population over the age of 74. The aim of the second measurement is to validate and consolidate the developed instrument. In addition, sample boosts should enable statements to be made at federal state level. The results will be available around September 2023.
