German Institute for Tourism Research receives further support

Professor Dr. Sven Groß (Harz University of Applied Sciences) joins the German Institute for Tourism Research. His election as a so-called Fellow is an important development step for the institute: Groß is the first member to be appointed by another university to conduct research together with the team at FH Westküste University of Applied Sciences in the future.

The German Institute for Tourism Research and Prof. Dr. Groß have been working together for a long time. For example, the researchers have jointly studied the behavior of cruise tourists. The aim of the project is to use smartphone data to analyze the routes taken by cruise tourists in Hamburg. Prof. Groß is also involved as editor of a publication on the subject of tourism psychology, which will appear in 2024 in the publication series of the German Institute for Tourism Research. The very good and successful cooperation to date was the reason to consolidate the cooperation in the form of membership of the Institute.

Prof. Dr. Bernd Eisenstein, Director of the German Institute for Tourism Research, is delighted to welcome Prof. Groß as a new member: “Prof. Dr. Groß and I have more than 20 years of joint research behind us. His expertise is an excellent addition to the Institute’s work. Particularly in the areas of mobility, travel management, outdoor and nature, he will also contribute new ideas that will enrich our research work and open up new joint fields of research.”

Prof. Dr. Groß is particularly looking forward to the opportunity to implement joint projects via the German Institute for Tourism Research: “My membership will enable us to pool our expertise even better, which will make research work much easier. In this respect, I am very much looking forward to the continued professional and personal exchange with my colleagues in Heide. We have already exchanged ideas and approaches for joint research projects.”
