AIRJoint research project for digital visitor management in tourism goes “ON AIR”

The research project “AI-based Recommender for Sustainable Tourism (AIR)” aims to research, develop, implement and evaluate AI-based procedures. These should help to avoid the temporary overloading of travel and excursion destinations through targeted visitor information and to identify suitable alternatives. The project has been running since the beginning of 2022 and is funded by the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Nuclear Safety and Consumer Protection (BMUV) until the end of 2024. The aim of the project is to contribute to more sustainable tourism development by equalizing visitor flows. After the project participants from research and practice have already achieved various milestones in recent months, the project is now also being opened up to destinations in German-speaking countries. As part of the nationwide research project, the participants have set themselves the goal of using the project’s reach and promoting the exchange and networking of all destinations in German-speaking countries on the topic of digital visitor management – the project goes ON AIR. There are various modules on the project’s own Adhocracy platform. Following the digital kick-off event on January 31, 2023, which has since attracted around 120 participants, a live online discussion will now take place every quarter. The next of these online exchange meetings will take place on Friday, May 5 at 10 a.m. under the following Zoom link: https://fh-westkueste-de.zoom.us/j/89374465944. Registration is not necessary. In addition, topics relating to visitor management, data hubs, touchpoints etc. can be discussed in the online discussion forum on the Adhocracy platform. Good practices from Germany, Austria and Switzerland are listed on the interactive map on visitor measurement and visitor management, resulting in an overview map of active and planned projects. With a free Adhocracy account, anyone interested can comment, ask questions and enter projects. The AIR adhocracy platform promotes the exchange of ideas on digital visitor management. All destinations and other tourism stakeholders are cordially invited to participate. If you have any questions about the platform and the project, please contact Lisa Naschert.
