German Institute
for tourism research
Your first point of contact for applied, empirical tourism research in Germany
The German Institute for Tourism Research (DI Tourismusforschung) sees itself as a driver of innovation and stands for independence, neutrality and proximity to practice.
Under the umbrella of DI Tourismusforschung, university activities in applied tourism research and knowledge transfer are bundled and networked.
By transferring its research results, the institute promotes the exchange between science, business and society. The knowledge gained also creates practical benefits for all sectors of the economy associated with tourism. In addition, the methods developed serve to improve the public’s understanding of tourism phenomena and thus to develop tourism sustainably.
Discussion and solution approaches to tourism issues are also directly incorporated into teaching at FH Westküste University of Applied Sciences. As a result, students learn from current and real examples at a high academic level.

Surveys show that events are among the most popular vacation activities and can have a positive impact on local tourism. The project examines the influence of major European events on vacation travel planning. The investigation is carried out as part of a quantitative survey.
As awareness of sustainability grows, more and more companies are publishing corporate social responsibility reports (CSR reports) to explain their sustainable actions. The phenomenon of greenwashing is also frequently investigated in connection with CSR reports, but the topics of CSR report quality and greenwashing have not yet been linked.
The German Institute for Tourism Research (DI Tourismusforschung) and the Institute for the Transformation of the Energy System (ITE) at the FH Westküste University of Applied Sciences are working on a joint project with the Federal Association of the Camping Industry in Germany (BVCD) on the regenerative orientation of campsite energy systems.
